Bribe-proof rules in the division problem
نویسندگان
چکیده
The division problem consists of allocating an amount of a perfectly divisible good among a group of n agents with single-peaked preferences. A rule maps preference profiles into n shares of the amount to be allocated. A rule is bribe-proof if no group of agents can compensate another agent to misrepresent his preference and, after an appropriate redistribution of their shares, each obtain a strictly preferred share. We characterize all bribe-proof rules as the class of efficient, strategyproof, and weak replacement monotonic rules. In addition, we identify the functional form of all bribe-proof and tops-only rules.

Manipulation through Bribes
We consider allocation rules that choose both an outcome and transfers, based on the agents’ reported valuations of the outcomes. Under a given allocation rule, a bribing situation exists when agent j could pay agent i to misreport his valuations, resulting in a net gain to both agents. A rule is bribe-proof if such opportunities never arise. The central result is that when a bribe-proof rule i...
متن کاملBRIBE or LOBBY? (it’s a matter of development)
Corruption and lobbying are to some extent substitutes. Through lobbying a firm may be able to "change the rules" to the firm’s advantage. Alternatively, a firm may bribe a bureaucrat to "bend the rules" and thus avoid the cost of compliance. But there are important differences. While a change in the rules is more permanent, the bureaucrat can hardly commit not to ask for bribes also in the fut...
متن کاملFrobenius kernel and Wedderburn's little theorem
We give a new proof of the well known Wedderburn's little theorem (1905) that a finite division ring is commutative. We apply the concept of Frobenius kernel in Frobenius representation theorem in finite group theory to build a proof.
متن کاملNew scheduling rules for a dynamic flexible flow line problem with sequence-dependent setup times
In the literature, the application of multi-objective dynamic scheduling problem and simple priority rules are widely studied. Although these rules are not efficient enough due to simplicity and lack of general insight, composite dispatching rules have a very suitable performance because they result from experiments. In this paper, a dynamic flexible flow line problem with sequence-dependent se...
